Year 2s Find Music in Unexpected Places

Year 2 students enjoyed a lively Kaboom Percussion incursion, discovering how everyday objects – and even their own bodies – can be used to create music.

The Year 2 students recently participated in a Music Incursion from Kaboom Percussion. Featuring the very talented and humorous percussionists Aidan and Laura, the duo demonstrated to the students just how easy it is to make music out of everyday objects, such as dog toys, water bottles, balloons, hair brushes, and most importantly – our own bodies!

Aidan showed us his very first drum kit, which wasn’t anything fancy from a shop. In fact, it was a very humble cardboard box. The students learned that by tapping the different sections of the box, you were able to create different tones, just like tapping the different drums in a drum kit.

Highlights of the incursion were hearing a medley of seven famous pieces on the boomwhackers, seeing Aidan pull funny faces when things went wrong, discovering the wonderful sounds of the oinkaphone, seeing tiny hands go flying up into the air, seeing a couple of our more dramatic students selected to go on the stage, and for the teachers, we loved seeing all of the Year 2 students thoroughly enjoying themselves throughout the whole incursion.

For the students who would like to keep exploring the world of Kaboom Percussion in their own time, then with parental supervision, you might like to check out their website.
