Our Theme – Be the Exceptional
Heathdale Christian College’s relaunched Careers Week is a fantastic opportunity for our Year 10 students to gain an insight into a broad range of training and career opportunities. Our theme is ‘Be the Exceptional’, which mirrors Heathdale’s educational focus of developing each student’s unique God-given potential. ‘Be the Exceptional’ encapsulates our desire for each student to develop their God-given potential to the fullest and be exceptional in their own way. That is the heart and hope behind our Careers Week.

Seminar Program
Led by our Student Pathways Coordinator, Vicky Bawden, and supported by our Principals and staff, our Careers Week begins with a wide range of seminars to prepare students for the years ahead.
Elevate Education Study Skills Seminars
These sessions are designed to achieve behavioural change amongst students. It isn’t enough that students simply understand what they need to do in their study. The challenge in any study skills program is getting students to use and apply the skills they learn. Elevate gets students using the skills from its seminars by using an integrated process that works. The Time Management seminar covers:
• Developing routines to balance study and lifestyle
• Working smart by completing high value work
• Utilising study groups to leverage time
• Techniques for overcoming procrastination
Coordinators Presentation — Pathways, VCE, VCE VM & VET
The schools Pathways team each present about their area and sit on a panel to answer any questions relating to VCE, VCE VM, VET, VTAC, university entry schemes and the ATAR.
Subject Selection Session for Year 11
Year 10 students are provided insight into how to select their subjects for their upcoming year. They are shown how to access the online platform and how to use the platform to preference their subject choices. The students are also be made aware of the timeline in which subjects must be chosen, and parents receive further information regarding subject selections at a later date.
Virtual Work Experience
Students will have the opportunity to complete virtual work experience over the course of three sessions to give them varied insight into the world of work.

A current serving member from The Department of Defence will present an overview of their adventures and career in the Australian Defence Force as well as the many benefits that can be obtained from joining the Defence Force. The presentation will also look at the ADFA and Tertiary Courses entrance requirements and provide interested students the opportunity to ask any questions.

Industry Immersion
Each year, our Year 10 students are asked to list several industry speakers they would like to hear from and the top seven were chosen. Industry Speakers provide an opportunity for students to hear from those outside the school system. These speakers bring with them a wide range of life and industry experience. Each of our guest speakers explain an aspect of their world of work or how they operate daily. They reflect on the pathway they took after secondary education and their career journeys through life. They may be sharing insights on a topical issue or something related to a subject the students are studying or would like to study.
Guest speakers expand young people’s horizons when having to make subject, pathway and careers choices. At Heathdale we believe that a diversity of speakers is beneficial – from the deliberately relatable (such as alumni from the local area or with similar backgrounds to the students) to the deliberately different – they all help to broaden outlooks and provide insight into how other parts of the world work. Guest speakers can bring out the human stories behind the reality of work that might feel abstract to our students.
We are privileged to welcome the following guest speakers, who have generously donated their time to grow the future of Heathdale’s current generation of students.

Medical Student
Mitch graduated from Heathdale in 2019 before moving on to the University of Melbourne. Five years later, he still hasn't escaped—he's a third-year med student, which means he could give you a flu vaccine, but if you need a new kidney, you should probably look elsewhere. Outside of studying, he's a bit of a hobby chameleon, jumping between social sport, theatre and other bits and bobs. He is looking forward to sharing about his journey through Heathdale, his time after high school up until now and his plans for the future.
Electrician
After completing Year 12, Joshua started working as an electrical apprentice while studying for a Certificate III in Electrotechnology at Victoria University. He has worked as an A Class Electrician across residential, commercial and industrial settings for the last 17 years. Currently, Joshua is working on growing his electrical business that specialises in new homes, service work and light commercial projects. He enjoys working with people and building teams, and strives to create a workplace and culture that people enjoy being a part of. Joshua is now married with three kids, and he loves F1, playing basketball and footy.

Yosup’s job is to get Olympic athletes fitter and stronger for their sport so that they can win at the highest level. He works closely with a big team including coaches, physiotherapists, sports doctors, dieticians and psychologists to devise optimal training programs for each of their athletes.

Having had a keen interest in aviation from a young age, with encouragement from her family, she took her first flying lessons at 15 and eventually flew solo at 16. After completing her training, she gained her first pilot job at the age of 20 in northern outback Australia. She then moved to New Zealand to work for her first airline, and after a few years, headed back to Australia to fly a jet aircraft. After several years of domestic jet flying, she is now fortunate to enjoy her role as a First Officer on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, travelling the world. She enjoys an active lifestyle—hiking, camping, snowboarding, rollerskating and gardening. She is currently a mentor for new pilots at her airline and is keen to encourage younger generations to chase their dreams and aspirations.

Apprentice Carpenter
I’m 22 years old and a second-year apprentice at C.O. I finished my VCEVM at Heathdale in 2021. I worked at Coles while doing my police enrolment, and once that fell through, I started a 4-week trial period as a Carpenter (Labour) to see if I liked the job. Then, they offered me a full-time job. I’m doing my TAFE course at Victoria University in Sunshine. I play football at Werribee Centrals Football Club and my life revolves around my 2-year-old Rottweiler named Otis.
Program Manager
I graduated from Heathdale in 2014 after completing my VCE. I am an experienced Program Manager with a track record of leading cross-functional teams, delivering complex projects and aligning strategy with execution. I thrive in fast-paced environments, bringing structure to ambiguity and driving outcomes that make a real impact. I am passionate about collaboration, clear communication and building programs that scale.
Program Manager
My name is Jack and I’ve been in the Fitness Industry for over 4 years now! Coming out of high school at the end of 2017, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do. I ended up taking a gap year, travelling, trying a bunch of different things and ended up in the fitness industry. I grew up in the gym environment from a young age and had a health scare back in 2018 which drove me to take my health more seriously. I ended up completing a Cert III and Cert IV in Group Training and Personal Training which has led me to where I am now. I’ve been managing a gym for the last two and a half years, and coach many clients through the various obstacles of life and health.
