The much-anticipated commencement of Year 12 at the Melton Campus will occur next week.
The ‘Early Start’ program is when current Year 11 students commence their studies in their chosen Year 12 subjects for 2025. This will begin at Melton Campus next week.
This may surprise many people who are naturally accustomed to thinking that the academic year is from February to December. By the time you are reading this newsletter, most Year 12 students will have completed their exams for 2024 and be off into the post-school world.
Commencing the Year 12 studies in the preceding year effectively adds one month to the time available for course delivery. There are several advantages to this:
1. The workload is less concentrated,
2. Students have greater support in adjusting to the increased demands of Year 12 requirements.
3. Students are able to make that all important relational connection to their teacher as early as possible.
These Year 11 students will finish examinations this week and commence Year 12 next week. This will be a very new experience for them and a definite adjustment – albeit a very beneficial one.
On Monday, our current Years 10 and 11 students will have a step-up day where they are supported in and informed about the VCE requirements and structures. An internal program has been designed to facilitate this and will be delivered by our staff.
This will also be the case for many of the parents of these students. It is a maxim that “the whole family does VCE, not just the students.” It would be wonderful if we as a community could lift these families in prayer for the coming weeks and for the year.
This time next year, they will be finished. I am so thankful for the contributions that they have made to the school already.
I am excited to witness the rest of what they will do to increase and define our community.
