On Monday, 30th March, Melton campus VCE Legal Studies students took part in the Court Education Program at the Supreme Court of Victoria in Melbourne, accompanied by Ms Harding and Mr West. The excursion offered students a unique opportunity to see the legal system in action and gain an authentic understanding of how justice is administered in our state.
A highlight of the day was an engaging Q&A session with Justice Lisa Hannon from the Common Law Division of the Supreme Court, alongside her associates. Students posed thoughtful questions about careers in the legal profession, judicial decision-making and the realities of working within the justice system. Justice Hannon’s insights and candid reflections offered students a valuable glimpse into the responsibilities and experiences of a senior judicial figure in Australia.
Students also had the opportunity to observe two trials in progress, including one presided over by Justice Croucher in the Trial Division. This provided rare insight into courtroom procedures and highlighted the crucial role juries play in criminal trials.
The excursion was both educational and inspiring, enhancing students’ understanding of the law and its vital role in society. We extend our sincere thanks to the Supreme Court of Victoria for providing such a rich and memorable learning experience.
