Way back in Term 1, our Year 5&6 Boys and Girls Volleyball teams both won the District Championships. Last Thursday 9th October was the long-awaited sequel: The Division Championships, where the District champions came up against one another in the next stage of competition.
Our teams were 'locked in' and 'cooking' as the young people say (translation - they were focused and in the zone), with both teams going undefeated leading into the last match, which essentially became Grand Finals.
Our boys were up first against Arnolds Creek, who were also undefeated, and after a comfortable win in the first set, the opposition came to life and pushed out to an early lead. As the set was slipping away Elijah M, channelling Reece Walsh from the Broncos, said "boys, jump on my back, I got this," and reeled off five points in a row on his serve to clinch the Division title in extraordinary scenes.
The girls were next and came up against an undefeated Melton Christian College. Fortunately for my blood pressure, the girls impressively took the first two sets to take home the title comfortably.
The teams will have a few weeks to enjoy this victory and then set their sights on the third instalment: Regional Championships, which premiers on 31st October against the best teams from all of Western Melbourne.
