Turning Pages to Support Indigenous Literacy

The recent pre-loved Book Sale Fundraiser at our Werribee campus exceeded expectations, raising $553 to support the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and provide resources to remote communities – more than double what we raised last year!

From the 26th to 28th of November, the Werribee Library Leadership team hosted a pre-loved Book Sale Fundraiser during lunchtime. The books on sale, priced at $1 or $2 each, were either ex-library books or generously donated by staff and students.

Student leaders took charge of creating posters, promoting the event, collecting book donations, and assisting with the setup, operation, and pack-down of the stall. The Student Reconciliation Leaders also contributed by promoting the event and supporting the cause.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will be donated to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, which provides books and resources to help children in remote communities develop their literacy skills. The funding also supports the translation of popular books into First Languages and the publication of books by local communities, allowing children to begin their literacy journey with books in their own language.

Last year’s sale raised $202, and we are thrilled to announce that this year's total has more than doubled, reaching $553 for 2024!

We would like to extend a huge thank you to the Library Leaders for their passion and dedication in supporting the event, and to all staff and students who visited the stall and purchased books. We look forward to running this event again in 2025! Please consider partnering with us by donating unwanted books for the next sale; these can be dropped off to Miss Robinson in the Library anytime during school hours.
