Year 9 students have the option of Outdoor Education as one of their semester elective choices. This very practical course is aimed at preparing students with the skills to successfully complete an overnight hike through the Victorian bush. Key skills for this trip include being able to correctly put up and take down a shelter, using a portable cooker, safe food handling, navigating compass bearings, map reading and the correct use of a camping backpack.
This week, our Year 9s went out for a practice hike at the You Yangs to get the hang of navigation on bush tracks with a heavy backpack. They are looking forward to their overnight hike next week near Lorne.
