Our Years 7–10 students are approaching their mid-year exams next week. Hopefully, they have laid a firm foundation of understanding during the semester and moving into revising what they have learnt this week in preparation.
Some students enjoy the challenge of exams and for others it can be quite a daunting time. With teacher support and encouragement, our students are given the opportunity to build the skill of exam performance and helped to become familiar with this kind of assessment task. As they progress through Secondary, revision and study become habits that are built upon and strengthened as the complexity and expectations of learning increase.
Helpful ways to support students at home with preparation for exams include:
- Encouraging your child to have their study timetable displayed somewhere where they can easily be reminded of what they need to do next.
- Reducing family commitments afterschool during revision and exam weeks is wise if it can be managed so that students have the free time they need to focus.
- Limit access to phones and take a break from constant connection.
- Finally, healthy food and plenty of sleep is essential!
