Congratulations to our talented Years 1-2 Art Club students, who were recognised in the 2026 Wyndham Primary Schools Litter Sculpture Competition.
Held in recognition of National Threatened Species Day, the competition challenged students to create sculptures from litter and recycled materials while raising awareness of the impact pollution can have on Australia’s threatened wildlife. Judges praised the exceptional quality of entries from schools across Wyndham, noting that this year’s competition was particularly difficult to judge due to the creativity and thoughtfulness on display.
We are proud to share that Heathdale Christian College was awarded Third Prize for its sculpture, Blue-billed Duck, created by our Years 1-2 Art Club. Through their artwork, students highlighted the importance of protecting native species and caring for God’s creation through responsible environmental stewardship.
This achievement reflects the imagination, teamwork and dedication of the students involved. Congratulations to our Years 1-2 Art Club and their teacher, Mrs Ribarsky, for representing Heathdale so well. We are proud of the positive message they shared with the wider community and this outstanding result.
Didactic:
This artwork of the Blue-billed duck is made entirely from collected litter to highlight the impact of pollution on its wetland habitat. Plastic, cans and other rubbish can contaminate waterways, injure wildlife and destroy the healthy environments these endangered ducks need to thrive.
By transforming discarded waste into art, the piece reminds us that our everyday choices affect the natural world. Every bottle, wrapper or piece of plastic placed in a bin instead of the environment helps protect wetlands and the animals that call them home. It we all reduce, reuse and recycle, and stop littering, we can help give the Blue-billed Duck a better chance of survival.
