This week, our VET Sport and Recreation students were joined by our Year 10 Geography students for a special adventure in the waters of Port Phillip Bay. They were in turn joined by a colony of friendly seals who enjoyed showing off their superior talents in the water to our wetsuit-clad snorkellers. Our students were working towards their areas of competency in a Certificate III in Sport and Recreation. We don’t know what the seals were working on – perhaps a certificate in human studies!
What an exciting school day! Imagine if in your final years of school, you could take subjects like Sport and Recreation that not only counted towards your VCE or VCAL certificate but also earned recognised TAFE qualifications at the same time? Imagine no more!
Our VET (Vocational Education and Training) subjects in Years 10-12 offer that opportunity to all our students (both VCAL and VCE) in a wide range of areas: Sport and Recreation, Hospitality, Furniture Making, Applied Language: Chinese, Creative Digital Media and Music Industry. If our students’ interests are in other areas, we are able to link in with another school in our VET network to help our students find the VET course that is right for them and their future. Yes, it can count towards an ATAR while being a recognised external certificate at the same time. So students have a sense of working towards a robust set of skills and qualifications even while they are still at school!
Sometimes, your school work really does require you to swim with seals! How wonderful!
