On Tuesday September 9, members of the Concert Choir (Werribee Campus) performed at the prestigious Royal South Street Society Eisteddfod in Ballarat. The Eisteddfod is a high-level music competition for musicians and performers of all ages that is held every year.

The Concert Choir competed in an event for especially for Secondary School Choirs, and I am pleased to report that the Concert Choir was awarded second place! As this was the first time that our choir had performed at the Eisteddfod, we were overjoyed with this result.

Now in its third year, the Concert Choir is an auditioned choir of 20 students, ranging from Years 9 – 12. Kezia J (Yr 10) was our amazing accompanist, and she was assisted by Kayleen P (Yr 8).

The students gained valuable experience in preparing for and presenting a varied repertoire of choral pieces, which consisted of:

- In Memory of an Unknown (Paul Jarman – Four-part harmony and Australian Composer)
- Wild Mountain Thyme (Traditional Scottish – Unison)
- Go the Distance / For Good (Arr Lorraine Salvador – Own Choice)

Members of the choir also enjoyed listening to the performances from many other schools from all around Victoria, and in addition to receiving feedback regarding their performance, the adjudicator held a workshop with all of the vocal students from the competing schools.

I would like to acknowledge all the students for their hard work leading up to this performance, and give a special thank you to our Year 12 members: Madison A, Tobi A, Iliana J, Piper L, Lilly R, Aashyria Taluja and Charlize W. It has been so lovely to work with them in the choir, and I hope that they get further opportunities to sing in a choir once they graduate. A special thanks to Mr Salvador and Miss Croxon for all of your support leading up to and on the day of the Eisteddfod.
