It is a busy time of the year for our Years 7 and 8 students as they head towards their Semester Two exams next week. Be assured that learning continues right up to the end of the school year; after exams students engage with key skills and content that will enable them to move confidently into the next year of learning.
The task of preparing for exams encourages the consolidation and revision of the semester’s learning. Over the past fortnight, teachers have been advising students on the best ways to prepare for their exams and providing guides for revision in their subjects. A good study routine with manageable chunks of study time is the key to being well-prepared and calm.
Other things to remember:
- A good night’s sleep is so essential to memory and critical thinking. More than ever exam week is a good time to encourage healthy sleeping habits and switching off devices at a reasonable time.
- Good food is great fuel for a healthy mind. Breakfast, a well-packed snack and lunch are a great help to keep concentration and energy all day.
- Perspective is important. There’s a healthy balance between not caring at all and feeling like the whole world depends on the next hour’s work. Family time and a good laugh now and then help us keep the balance right so that striving for our best doesn’t become driven by a fear of failing.
- Teachers are a great resource. Remember to check revision guides carefully – don’t just assume you know what’s going to be on the exam. Check back over your previous assessments and look at feedback carefully to see what you might need to focus on during revision.
