Reflecting on a Semester of Learning

As Secondary students receive their mid-year reports, many will also be recognised with Achievement and Endeavour Awards that celebrate both excellence and effort across this last semester of growth.

During the past fortnight, students have been receiving their exam results, reviewing their performance and finalising assessments for their first semester’s work. As we move into the receiving of reports, many students will also be receiving recognition of their achievement and growth in learning through the form of our Semester Awards.

In Secondary, this will mean printing around 700 certificates!

Mid-year, we provide two types of awards – Achievement and Endeavor. An Academic Award recognises the highest achievers in each class. The Endeavour Award recognises effort and application. It can be used to recognise improvement and growth, regardless of the current level of achievement.

All students are on their own journey in terms of learning. Meaningful effort, focus, commitment and a willingness to respond to feedback are the building blocks of academic growth and success that we want all students to embrace.

Some students will receive multiple awards over several subjects. Our goal is to reflect and honour what the student has achieved and their efforts and enthusiasm. We are not trying to ensure “everyone gets something” – awards must be meaningful and real to the students, or they will not be valued. Our teachers give careful thought to our awards and hope that they bring encouragement to the recipients.

Students will be able to see any award received listed in the mid-year report for that subject. Our mid-year reports will be available through the Parent Portal at the end of term. Students will also receive their physical certificates during homeroom on Friday morning.

Congratulations to all our students for a successful semester of learning!
