“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:12-13)

Heavenly Father, this week we remember the courageous men and women who gave their lives in wartime. We lift them and their families up to you in prayer and ask that you comfort them with your grace and peace. Father, we also ask that you give peace and wisdom to all the current military personnel who faithfully serve and protect our country.

As we reflect on the sacrifice given by so many, we may be reminded of the value of the freedoms we now live under. Help us to not take our lives for granted, but rather help us live in a way that honours those who have gone before us.

Thank you, Jesus, that you died for us all. You died the death that we deserve to die, and you lived the life that we should live. You are the greatest love that we can know, and you showed this by laying down your life for us.

Lest we forget the sacrifice you have made and lest we forget the service and sacrifice of the courageous men and women who have gone before us. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
