Nearly 400 students participated in Heathdale Christian College's campus-based Annual Music Showcases, making for an outstanding fortnight of music and performance. The Werribee Campus event was held at Catalyst Baptist Church, while the Melton Campus Showcase took place in The Assembly Hall.
The Melton Annual Music Showcase was a wonderful celebration of the musical talent and dedication of students across both the Primary and Secondary Schools. The evening began and concluded with inspiring performances from the Worship Band, setting a vibrant tone for the event. Audience members enjoyed a diverse program featuring many students performing in piano duos and trios, demonstrating both skill and collaboration.
Highlights of the evening included the enthusiastic Year 3 Choir, the energetic Year 4 & 5 and Year 6 African Drumming groups, the impressive Brass Quintet, and the mixed whole-school ensemble. A special milestone for this year's showcase was the inclusion of performances by our two Year 12 VET Music students. Ashlan performed her vocal piece, Everywhere, Everything, while Callum delighted the audience with an electric guitar performance of Kickstart My Heart. These memorable items showcased the high standard of music education at Melton and were warmly received by the audience. The showcase was a fitting celebration of the hard work, growth, and passion of our student musicians.
The continued growth of the Instrumental Music Program at the Werribee Campus meant that this year's showcase was divided into two sessions, each featuring 75 minutes of music.
The Primary Session featured the 1/2 Choir, 3/4 Choir, 5/6 Choir, String Orchestra, Recorder Ensemble, and Primary Band. Several talented students were also invited to perform as soloists, including Eric L on baritone, and Chloe C and Nicolo Y on piano. It was particularly encouraging to see so many young musicians accompanying the 3/4 and 5/6 Choirs on flute, violin, guitar, cello, and piano. Special thanks to Fred, Glenn, Zacarias, Eva, Chloe, Livinia, Ashley, Liza, and Aldrick for their hard work and professionalism in preparing and performing these accompaniments.
The Secondary Session featured performances by the Concert Choir, String Orchestra, and Concert Band. Additional highlights included Stanway's winning Battle of the Bands performance of I Want You Back by N’SYNC. Solo performances were given by Joshua S and Fred Y on piano, Wei C on flute, and Joseph K on violin. Audience members also enjoyed performances from several of our Year 12 VCE Music and VET Music Industry students.
One of the standout moments of the evening was Clark H's drum performance of the epic six-minute composition The Dance of Eternity. The exceptional musicality, technical skill, and showmanship displayed in this performance left a lasting impression and will be remembered for years to come.
We extend our sincere thanks to all staff, students, parents, and instrumental music teachers whose hard work and support helped make these two showcase evenings such a tremendous success.
