On Wednesday 23rd April, the first day of Term 2, we had a guest from Law in Schools, Danielle, to speak to our Year 10-12 students about digital citizenship.
A recent government survey identified that 98% of students in this age bracket are using at least one form of social media. This does not take into account other forms of accessing the digital world. So, it is imperative that our students are aware of what being a digital citizen means.
Danielle spoke to our students about the idea of citizenship in Australia. Being an Australian citizen means that we take a pledge in order to receive the wonderful blessings of being a part of this country. Taking part in the pledge means that to receive the benefits we make a commitment to the expectations of Australia.
An online citizenship follows the same idea. Danielle outlined that we all have online rights, but it is not free for all. Danielle cleverly spoke through the four rights we all have and the five responsibilities we are accountable for. She also touched on our digital footprint.
We look forward to our next session with Danielle, on Wednesday 4th June, about cyber safety.
