On the 7th of March, 2025, College Co-Vice Captain Laura Cook, Miss Hanna and I attended the International Women’s Day Luncheon hosted by Mayor Abboushi of Melton City Council.

The event brought together many influential and inspiring women, including women from the Melton City Council, the Minister for Women of Victoria, Natalie Hutchins, female school captains from schools within Melton, and the guest speaker, Jade Hameister OAM. At the age of 16, Jade became the youngest person to complete an unsupported and unassisted journey to both the North and South poles.

Throughout the afternoon, we had the privilege of hearing from these incredible women as they shared their experiences and the challenges that shaped them into the leaders they are today. We learnt about the growth of female leadership within the Melton Council and the increasing empowerment of women’s voices in critical issues such as equal pay, domestic violence and sexual abuse.

Jade’s speech was particularly inspiring as she shared the hardships she faced during her trips. She emphasised how every win and loss played a role in shaping her resilience, shaping the idea that with determination, anything is possible.

The luncheon was informative and incredibly uplifting, leaving all of us feeling honoured to be a part of such a meaningful celebration.
