Junior Journal Jottings - #9

The Timothy Award is our most treasured award, so it's encouraging to see that it's been very difficult to choose the recipients. There are just so many great students.

Winter has truly arrived on campus and it has been good to see most students arriving in their jumpers, coats, blue scarves and beanies for warmth. Teachers will be asking students to put their jumpers and coats on before going outside and if they take these off they should place them in their school bags.

At the present time, teachers are completing student reports for Semester 1. Reports will be sent home on Monday 24th June, and parents are welcome to book an appointment time to speak to the class teacher on either Wednesday 26th or Thursday 27th June. Online bookings will be open on the 19th June.

Staff changes are underway across Junior School due to various leave matters. Individual classes have been notified. Mrs Lara Emeodi has returned to Year 2 as a class teacher and Mrs Anna Szewczenko will be back with us for Term 3 as we farewell Mrs Sarah Patterson. We give thanks to the Lord for the provision of our dedicated and committed staff members who bring richness to the teaching and learning programs in our College. Please pray with us that the students will make the transition positively and seamlessly over the next few weeks.

A reminder that this Friday is a student free day and Monday is the Queen’s birthday, so a long weekend may be the perfect time to rest up or have a short break before the final weeks of Term 2. There will be no homework expectations during this time for our students, but reading is always a good idea. Perhaps a visit to the local library on Friday will give your child some activities to fill the weekend.

For our next Junior School Assembly, a number of awards will be given to our students. This occurs twice a year in this larger forum, but various awards are also distributed in year level assemblies and in classrooms.

The Timothy Award is given out twice a year, and is a highlight for our students. The citation for this award reads; ‘Awarded to a student who consistently strives to excel in all aspects of school life and shows qualities commended in God’s Word.’ Based on 2 Timothy 3:14-15, young Timothy is an eager learner of all that is good and commendable under his tutor Paul’s instruction. We are greatly encouraged by the fact this award is very difficult to give. We have so many students in our Junior School, doing their very best day in and day out!

Our prayer for our students is that, whether they receive an award, or clap others who do, that each one will know how very valued they are in this learning community.

Winter Uniform

I remind all students to be diligent in ensuring they wear their smart winter uniform correctly and this includes jumpers as they travel to and from school. Please note that girls’ tights must be opaque 50 Denier. Sheer stockings, leggings and hosier type stockings/tights are not permitted. Tights should not be coupled with socks. Please name all items of uniform, checking that names are still visible after laundering.

Final Awards Assembly for Term 2

For our final Assembly this term we will hold two separate sessions on Tuesday 25th June. The first Assembly will begin at 9.40am and the second at 11.00am. This will allow more time for our assembly and fit everyone into the venue. As always, parents are welcome to attend. Semester 1 Awards, including Timothy Awards will be distributed. We hope you can join us for this celebration of the end of a most productive and enjoyable semester. Please note that this remains a College function and therefore photos or videos of this event is not permitted. Thank you for your understanding.
Classes attending each assembly is as follows:

9:40am - PC PN PL PP 1D 1G 1W 2C 2H 3K 3Z 4C 4L
11:00am - PD PE PW 1E 1H 1S 2B 2R 3C 3O 4G 4P

Urgent request

The art room needs old newspapers to line the tables for messy painting activities. If you have any at home, please drop them off first thing in the morning to the Junior School art room any day.
Thank you, Miss Anderson.

Traffic and Safety

We are grateful to the many parents who show patience and consider the safety of our students on campus during drop off and pick up time. Parents may consider parking off campus and walking their children into the school grounds. Children can often be unaware of cars passing and need an adult to help them navigate pathways in a safe manner. Thank you to all parents who assist us in keeping our students safe on campus and in particularly in the adjoining Church carpark.

Late Arrivals for Preps in ELC

If you arrive late to drop your child at school, please take them directly to their classroom door and use the sign in folder found on the bag rack next to the mail box outside the classroom to sign them in. Please slip your child into the room quietly and without entering. This will ensure the whole class can continue on with their morning routine and focus on the teacher in order for their learning to be uninterrupted.

Student Free Day

Friday 7th June will be a student free day and staff will be involved in finalising reports, professional development and curriculum planning. Please note that the kinder groups will still be operating on this day.
