The Public Speaking event for the Years 7–9 Module was a well-thought-out and well-enunciated affair. Every prepared speaker spoke exceptionally well, informing their audience on topics such as whether 100 average men could take on a silverback gorilla, why food tastes better the day after it has been prepared and how time travel is fraught with issues such as multiple timelines and the grandfather paradox.
In the impromptu section, the standout speaker shared insights on how stage fright is actually something to be embraced. All participants can hold their heads high, having performed exceptionally well.
In the end, it was Judson House who took the win, with Carey in second, Taylor in third and Stanway in fourth.
A highlight of the event was Mr Parker inviting one of the teachers, Mr Kaladari, to give an impromptu speech with the same preparation time as the students. He spoke impressively about what kind of world leader he would be (a loving Christian one, of course), and in the onstage interview afterward, he alluded to the fact that he shared the same feelings as the students who had performed earlier.
We hope all students took away valuable lessons from the speeches—and were reminded that they can do hard things when they set their minds to it and learn from their failures.
