Careers Week was an exciting whole-school event that brought together students from both the Werribee and Melton campuses. Across the week, students had the opportunity to explore future career pathways, connect with industry professionals, and gain valuable insights into the skills and experiences needed for success beyond school.

The highlight of the week was a two-day Careers Conference held at the WestWaters Entertainment Complex in Caroline Springs. This large-scale event united students from both campuses and featured a range of engaging presentations, workshops and activities. Students were privileged to hear from a number of inspiring industry speakers, including representatives from Victoria Police and the Australian Defence Force (ADF), who shared information about career opportunities within their organisations and the pathways available to young people. Motivational speaker Luke Kennedy also inspired students to pursue their goals with confidence, resilience and purpose.

Year 10 students on who their favourite speakers were:

"I really enjoyed the psychology speaker. I thought it was highly educational and it could help in my future."

"My favourite was the telecommunications engineer because he was very charismatic and had good slideshows. I want to be an engineer as well."

"I enjoyed the doctor's talk because it was really inspirational. The way they talked about the endless amount of pathways we have in Victoria was really useful for me."

Adding to the excitement were a series of interactive career team challenges that encouraged collaboration, problem-solving and communication. These activities provided students with a practical understanding of the employability skills that are highly valued across all industries.

Year 10s on what their favourite part of Careers Week was:

"Meeting new friends and seeing some familiar faces from Werribee."

"Hearing from different people and getting an idea of if I want to change what I'm doing."

The following days focused on helping students understand the pathways available to them throughout their senior years and beyond. Sessions explored VCE and VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) pathways, subject selection processes, and study skills programs designed to support academic success. These workshops equipped students with the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about their future educational and career directions.

One of the highlights of the week was the Industry Immersion Morning, which was set up as a careers expo featuring more than 20 exhibitors representing a wide variety of professions and industries. Students had the opportunity to speak directly with professionals, ask questions and explore different career possibilities. Exhibitors included industry representatives, Heathdale alumni, community partners, parents and friends of the College, all generously sharing their experiences, expertise and advice.

The week concluded with the Heathdale Careers Expo on Thursday evening at the Encore Events Centre. This whole-school event was open to students and families from Years 7-12 and provided another valuable opportunity to explore career and education pathways. With a wide range of exhibitors ranging from Universities, TAFE and Industry. The information available, students and parents were able to engage in meaningful conversations about future opportunities and aspirations. The strong attendance and enthusiastic participation highlighted the importance of career education within the Heathdale community.

The involvement of alumni, parents, community members and industry professionals throughout the week was a particular highlight. Their willingness to invest in our students provided valuable real-world perspectives and demonstrated the many different pathways available after school.

Alumni advice for students:

"Don't be afraid to make mistakes. The opposite of success isn't failure, it's quitting. So don't quit." Richard Boothby, Class of 1999

"Whether you're at univ or in a job, work hard, learn from your mistakes, solve problems, and one day you'll look back and realise just how far you've come." David Tibben, Class of 2003

Another successful Careers Week has come to a close, leaving students inspired, informed and better equipped to make decisions about their futures. Heathdale Christian College extends its sincere thanks to all guest speakers, exhibitors, alumni, parents and community partners who contributed to making the week such a memorable and impactful experience. Through events such as these, Healthdale continues to empower students to discover their strengths, explore their interests and confidently pursue the pathways God has planned for them.
