For some years now, the Year 1 students at Melton have participated in 'Silly Sock Day.' This fun event allows our students to show off their creativity and sense of humour by wearing the silliest, wackiest and most colourful socks they can find. Student wear polka dots, stripes, flowers, animals or even food patterns... the choice is theirs!
This year the invitation to wear silly socks was extended to the entire Melton campus. It was a great day where students, both young and old, were showing off their creative selves and finding connections with one another that may have never been noticed before.
As part of the day, we asked that students bring a non-perishable item such as a can of soup, jar of honey, bag of rice or powdered milk that could be donated to 'Combined Churches Caring Melton'. This local food bank, which has been operating since 1995, is a not-for-profit organisation that seeks to help residents in the City of Melton access food support.
This was a huge success! The CCCM and our student leaders were amazed by the generosity of the school community who donated an entire trailer load of food to the Melton community. Thank you so much for your support in helping us help local churches care for Melton.
We look forward to next year's Silly Sock Day... I wonder if we can fill two trailers next year!
“I loved seeing so many people come together for a good cause and the insane amount of food that was donated. Looking out for those in need around us built a sense of community and served as a reminder that we're all human and should help each other as much as we can. Since our campus is based in Melton, it was about looking out for each other as members of this community.” Riley W. (Year 9), Community Captain
