Heathdale Christian College was absolutely thrilled to team up with G.A.T.E.WAYS to compete in The Challenge – an intense, team-based competition designed for our gifted and high-performing students! This nationally acclaimed enrichment program is a powerhouse of opportunity, and we couldn’t be more excited to host an event that not only delivers a world-class experience but also connects Christian Schools in an epic showcase of talent and collaboration.
This year Heathdale hosted the North/West event. We, along with three other schools, made up a total of 11 fiercely competitive teams who came ready to battle it out! Schools from across Australia stepped up to the plate. Now the scores are in, and the winners have been crowned. What a phenomenal display of skill, strategy and determination!
The Heathdale teams were made up of four Year 6 students who exhibited advanced abilities across the curriculum (particularly subject areas of Maths, Science and English). The teams were championed by Sue Tuffin, who had worked diligently training them for the competition. Over the course of the day, teams rotated through four different Challenges where the focus was on teamwork over individual performance. Each student had an opportunity to demonstrate leadership in one of the Challenges. Strong emphasis was placed on creativity, lateral thinking and problem-solving skills. This event would eventually crown the winner of the Christian Schools National Challenge.
Students who are selected must meet specific criteria based on their AGAT (A General Ability Test), PAT-M, and PAT-R results, which must be in the 96th percentile or higher. AGAT is a standardised online test that all students sit in Years 2, 4 and 6. It assesses your child’s general reasoning ability.
On the day, each team were presented with four different scenarios. In the morning, teams had a 30-minute practice session for each Challenge. In the afternoon, teams competed in the four 30-minute Challenges.
We are very pleased to announce that one of the four teams from Heathdale were the overall national winners! Well done to the DINOSAURS, which included Adrian R.S, Claire D, Fred Y and Tanvi P.
The BOMBVINCIBLES, consisting of Ishan T, Maximus A, Zac T and Daniel L, were awarded Outstanding Achievement for being in the top 90th percentile.
Wow, what an incredible day! Every single competitor brought their A-game, and we couldn’t be prouder of their amazing achievements. The challenges were tough, the activities were complex, and yet our students rose to the occasion with unstoppable determination, teamwork and a drive to give it their absolute best. You should feel so proud of their effort and spirit! We know everyone had a fantastic time and will look back on this experience with joy and unforgettable memories.
