A historic day for Heathdale at the School Sport Victoria State Swimming Championships!

On Thursday 1st May, our biggest ever swim team travelled to MSAC to compete in the SSV State Swimming Championships for Primary and Secondary students. We had one student competing in two individual events and three relay teams.

Our individual participant was Clare D (Year 6). Clare has made it through to the State Champs every year since Grade 3. This year, Clare competed in the 50-metre butterfly and 50-metre freestyle. In her first event, the butterfly, Clare walked away with a bronze medal, and then she swam in the 50-metre freestyle and beat all comers to become our first state champion!

Next up was our medley relay team, a team of Year 5 & 6 girls. This team ended up 5th in their race after at one stage being 8th. Next was our 9/10 Girls Freestyle Relay team, and these girls did really well to finish 4th in the state.

Our final race was our 12-year-old girls. These girls had consistently defeated all comers in the district, division and regional stages, and were now on the big stage. After the first leg, this team was sitting in seventh, and then Natalie, in the second leg, brought them up to fourth, where Yoyo kept them close, and then Clare dived in for the final leg and brought it home for the team to finish 3rd. But that was not the end—our girls ended up finishing 2nd, with one of the teams ahead of them being disqualified.

Well done to all the girls who competed on this day: Clare, Naomi, Natalie, Emma, Audrey, Kyra, Mandy, Yoyo, Ariana and Zoey.
