Goal-Kicking and Spiking Success

Last term, our Years 3–4 students shone in soccer and volleyball competitions, bringing home impressive results and plenty of memorable moments.

Last term, they had heard about the excitement and (possibly embellished) exploits from older friends and siblings, and now the time had arrived for our Years 3–4 students to shine on the interschool stage as they participated in Soccer and Volleyball competitions.

MPSSA Boys & Girls Soccer

Due to unprecedented interest, soccer trials were conducted over a couple of days. Mr Williams had the tough job of whittling the squad down to 12 boys and 12 girls.

On the day of competition, our teams played against seven local schools. It was a successful and enjoyable (and very cold!) day for both our teams. Our girls won five games and drew one to finish in second place, whilst our boys won four, lost one and drew one to finish third—fantastic results!

Highlights included Jack (Year 3) casually slotting a goal from half field, Dale (Year 3) doing his best impression of a brick wall as goalie and Emma (Year 4) taking home the Golden Boot as top scorer.

Volleyball Victoria Schools Cup

Our Year 4 volleyballers had been training hard all term as part of the Activity Day Volleyball Club, and the day finally arrived to put all that hard work into action at the Schools Cup at Eagle Stadium, Werribee. We had three teams competing: Year 4 Mixed Team 1, Year 4 Mixed Team 2, and a Primary Girls Team. It was also a chance to wear the brand-new Heathdale sports guernseys—which many seemed just as excited about as actually playing.

It was a thrilling day of volleyball action, with many highs, some lows and one or two nail-biting results. Pleasingly, all our teams made the playoffs, with Mixed Team 1 making the grand final and finishing runners-up, Mixed Team 2 reaching the bronze medal playoff but going down in a close two sets to one, and our Primary Girls securing a hard-fought bronze medal. Well done to all teams!
