Wynspeak Grand Final
Congratulations to Haniel from Year 8 and Caleb from Year 11 on their fantastic performances in the Wynspeak finals last week! Both students claimed the Runner-Up prize for their age groups in the overall prepared public speaking challenge. Haniel also walked away with First Prize for her division of the impromptu speech challenge.
Wynspeak is the premier youth public speaking competition for Secondary school students in the Western suburbs. The competition was established to provide students with an opportunity to test their public speaking skills in front of a live audience and develop life skills that have meaningful application well beyond the classroom years.
Would you go surfing in this weather???
The Year 12s might! Last week saw our Year 12 cohort head off for three days of bonding and learning down the Great Ocean Road at Anglesea. Thankfully, the rain cleared by the afternoon of the first day and the students could enjoy bike riding, a high ropes course, team games, relevant devotions and workshops and – brave souls – a trip to the beach to learn to surf! We hope the time away provided a chance to reflect and renew as our students enter the home stretch of their high school career.
Exams completed
Last week concluded our exam period for Years 7-11. In total, 3317 exams were prepared, with younger students sitting exams in only some subjects, while our Year 11 VCE students had exams in all subjects. Well done to all students who were well-organised with their revision and study preparation beforehand.
Exams provide a great opportunity to review the semester’s learning so that early work is consolidated and linked to learning later in the unit of work. Teachers have been busy marking all those exams and students will receive marks and be able to review their papers within the week.
Parents can access exam results and final grades for subjects via Canvas. Our mid-year reports will be mailed to parents during the school holidays. We look forward to the opportunity to speak with parents at our Parent-Teacher Conversations in early Term 3.
