Community Spirit Shines at Melton

From hosting the College's Board Dinner to presenting student talent at the Annual Music Showcase, it’s been a vibrant couple of weeks at Melton, celebrating community and connection.

Each week at the Melton campus is very busy. The last two weeks in particular highlight our focus on student learning and wellbeing.

On Friday the 30th, we celebrated Footy Father’s Day. A large number of parents from our community, both fathers and mothers, attended making it a great success. Families connected and celebrated while proudly displaying their 'tribal' team allegiances and enjoying a tasty breakfast.

Last Thursday, the annual Board Dinner was held at Melton themed around celebrating our 10-year anniversary. It was a grand occasion that brought together many who have been and currently are instrumental in the school's journey from its inception to its current level of operation. One of the great themes of the night was how the school has had the privilege of supporting families in the western suburbs. The evening proved to be a powerful reminder, affirmation and great encouragement of how the school has remained true to its mission.

On Tuesday evening of this week, we celebrated the talent at the Melton campus with our Annual Music Night. We were delighted to ‘christen’ our new Drama and Performance space with this event. The building features a state-of-the-art sound system matched by the quality of the performances our students produced. The audience enjoyed many performances that had previously received first and second prizes at local eisteddfods and other competitions.

This week, our staff have been focused on fostering care for staff and students on RUOK Day. Our commitment to this aspect of community is constant and ongoing. RUOK Day's place in the annual calendar serves to raise awareness about caring for others and promoting a sense of community.

I want to take this opportunity to celebrate the valuable and significant contribution of Mrs Vanessa Smith to both individual students and the collective culture of the Melton community. Mrs Smith has been a ‘pillar’ of the community, making a deep and lasting impact on the ethos, professional practice and interpersonal care for students and staff alike. Creating a sense of joy and celebration has been one of her great contributions to our culture and its significance should not be underestimated. Mrs Smith is moving on to a leadership role at another school. While we celebrate this recognition of her practice and leadership, we also lament her departure from our professional community. She has built strong connections with our staff and students, and I am sure she will remain in close contact with many of us. We wish her every success in her new role where she will undoubtedly continue to bless and encourage others. We hope to see her regularly around our school.
