Our Carey House Captains for Primary at our Werribee Campus recently held a Cultural Day where students across Years 3-6 were invited to dress in their cultural clothes or colours of their country's flag.
Funds raised through gold coin donations went toward the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre, a cause chosen by the Carey Captains as it coincided with their classroom learning about the hardships of asylum seekers and refugees.
When pitching the event idea to the Principal of Primary - Werribee, Mrs Yvonne Harvey, Savannah S. (Carey Captain) and Aarna S. (Carey Vice Captain) expressed:
"With a diverse group of people comes a shared responsibility to make sure that Heathdale Christian College is a friendly, caring, and respectful community. By creating a sense of belonging, we can build a safe and supportive school for everyone. As we seek to empower the different cultures in our school, we also believe that upholding the needs of refugees in our countries is an important priority that falls in line with God’s vision for unity amongst us.”
