At our Melton campus, we have introduced a new weekly Activity Program for Years 3 to 12, designed to support student wellbeing and foster a stronger sense of belonging.
Research highlights growing mental health and relationship challenges among young people, with many students struggling with stress, loneliness and social connections. By providing structured opportunities for students to engage in meaningful activities, the program aims to create a supportive environment where friendships can develop, students feel safe seeking help and staff become more approachable to those who may need support.
The Activity Program takes place on Tuesdays from 2:00-3:10pm, with lesson times adjusted to accommodate this initiative while ensuring minimal disruption to classroom learning. This approach considers the challenges many students face in accessing after-school programs due to transport and other commitments. Lunchtime activities, while valuable, are also limited in their capacity to meet the scale of student needs. By integrating this dedicated time into the school day, the program offers all students the opportunity to participate in activities that foster connection, teamwork and personal growth.
Each teacher runs an activity, with options ranging from recreational activities like board games, crafts and chess to team-based activities such as sports training, music, debating and public speaking. These sessions will provide students with a chance to engage in enjoyable, interactive experiences that strengthen their sense of belonging within the school community.
With this initiative, our Melton campus aims to proactively support student wellbeing while maintaining its commitment to academic learning and personal development.
