Our Grade 6 students recently visited the Science Laboratory and conducted an exciting experiment to test six different white powder products from the supermarket, such as flour or sugar.
Using simple chemical tests, they explored whether each powder contained starch or carbonate.
Starch Test: When iodine was added, powders containing starch turned a striking blue-black colour.
Carbonate Test: When vinegar was added, powders containing carbonate fizzed or bubbled, indicating a chemical reaction.
The students were highly engaged and carried out the tests with great care and curiosity. It was a fantastic opportunity to apply scientific thinking in a fun, hands-on way and they absolutely loved it!
