Each year across Australia, the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) bring children and books together to celebrate Book Week. It provides an opportunity to celebrate Australian children’s authors and illustrators and promotes the value of books for the education, enjoyment and enlightenment of children.

In the lead up to Book Week, which was held from 20th-26th August, the students at the Melton Campus enjoyed listening to and completing activities on the CBCA short-listed books, which are now on display in the Library. We held competitions for both the primary and secondary students, with numerous entries. Congratulations to all who entered, everyone did an excellent job.

Of course, Book Week itself, did not disappoint! This year’s theme was ‘Dreaming with eyes open’. We created dream jars and wrote down our dreams and prayers for the future. We were privileged to have Miss Prior, the Secondary Art Teacher, come one lunchtime to read the students a story of which she personally illustrated! Primary students then enjoyed the colouring sheets relating to the story, whilst Miss Prior ran an illustration workshop for the secondary students.

On Tuesday, 23rd August, we held our annual Dress Up Day and Parade. The whole school dressed up and our students and staff did not disappoint with their outfits that were inspired by their favourite books and characters. The parade for the primary students was filled with colour, pizzazz and excitement. It was wonderful to see so many parents there too! Thank you to parents and students for the time and effort they put into making their costumes.

Primary students were excited to see and be involved in our Book Week incursion: Story Quest, which was held on Wednesday, 24th August. Perform Education put on a spectacular show, immersing the students into the storytelling and interaction with the books featured from the CBCA 2022 shortlist. The show was engaging and consisted of original narratives filled with music, adventure and intrigue!

We continue to celebrate the power of reading and helping our students to foster a love of literature.
