Battling It Out in the 7–9 Spelling Bee

Our Year 7–9 Werribee students faced off in a spelling bee that tested their skills, courage and house spirit—lasting twice as long as expected!

The Years 7–9 Spelling Bee was a great success. Students performed so well that the competition lasted twice as long as expected! We held three competitions—one for each year level in the 7–9 Module.

In the Year 7 competition, Stanway still had two students left in round 8, with Carey also having one student. In the end, Anika M from Stanway was successful as the Best Speller for Year 7.

In the Year 8 competition, Judson had two spellers left in round 7, with Carey also having one speller remaining. All three were unable to spell their words correctly in this round, so Judson took the win due to having two spellers.

In the Year 9 competition, the students performed so well that the MC had to bring out the stumper words. It took 12 rounds to finally crown a winner—it may have taken a couple more rounds if the MC had pronounced one of the words correctly! In the end, Judson’s Ryan L was victorious, with Eliana M from Taylor coming in second.

Overall, Judson took first place, Stanway came second, Carey third and Taylor fourth. Well done to all students who overcame the fear of public speaking and spelling in front of their peers. There were even a couple of students who had been asked to participate the morning of the competition; they did their best and contributed to their House. Well done!
