150+ Opportunities to Flourish Outside the Classroom

From science excursions to camps, choirs, clubs and more, there are many extra-curricular experiences this year are helping our Primary students grow in curiosity, courage and Christ-like character beyond the classroom.

At Heathdale Christian College, we believe that every child is fearfully and wonderfully made by God (Psalm 139:14), gifted with unique talents and called to grow in wisdom, character, and creativity. While classroom learning is vital, some of the richest moments of formation happen beyond the four walls, when students explore God’s world, build community, and discover new passions through extra-curricular opportunities.

You may not realise just how many experiences your child is offered across the year! From Kindergarten through to Year 6, our students participate in excursions, incursions, community celebrations, music performances, sporting events, lunchtime and after-school clubs, and even overnight camps in the upper years. These are not simply “add-ons”—they are intentional extensions of learning that nurture curiosity, courage and Christ-like character.

Some highlights include:

- Excursions to the Traffic School, Scienceworks and Parliament;
- Incursions like Responsible Pet Ownership and Henny Penny Hatching;
- Celebrations such as 100 Days of Prep, Book Week Parades, and Year 6 Graduation;
- Camps from Year 3 onwards that build independence and resilience;
- Extra-curricular groups such as choir, chess club, lunchtime sport, comic club and enrichment programs;
- Out-of-hours music and drama lessons and community events that bless our wider school family.
- The new chess program after school and private instrumental music lessons

In total, there are over 150 extra activities offered to our Primary students this year alone!

As a school partnering with you, our desire is to see every child flourish, spiritually, academically, emotionally, and socially. These experiences are part of our commitment to holistic Christian education and our calling to help each child grow into all God has created them to be.

This week alone, some children will experience an excursion to Scienceworks, Musica Viva, volleyball, musical auditions and Space Night, and the Year 4 students have their camp.

We know that as teachers, we love to bless children and have these activities, and it is always a joy. These are, of course, bonuses, and often teachers add fun events into their time voluntarily because they want to see the children grow. Praise God, we have such generous teachers who give of their time so freely.

If there is a talent or blessing that you, as a parent, might have on offer, we are always open to ideas, so please do feel free to contact myself or your HoLM to discuss and see if other options are feasible.
